Experiences vs. Things

Experiences vs. Things

Have you ever spent way too much time trying to figure out what to buy someone, only to realize they already own everything you can think of?
Another hoodie.
Another coffee mug.
Another gift card with a heartfelt message attached to it.

At some point, especially in long-term relationships, gift giving can start to feel less like finding the perfect surprise and more like trying not to repeat yourself. 😅

But when I think about the moments people actually remember years later, they're usually not talking about the thing they unwrapped. They're talking about the concert they almost didn't go to, the spontaneous road trip they decided to take, or the date night that somehow turned into an inside joke they'll still be laughing about ten years later.

Those moments stick because they create a feeling.
And honestly, I think that's what most of us are really trying to give the people we love. Not just a thing, but an experience, a memory, and a reason to laugh, explore, and discover something new together.

If you're looking to surprise your partner, try thinking less about the gift itself and more about the experience it creates.
✔️ Pick something neither of you has tried before.
✔️ Turn opening the gift into a date night instead of a quick exchange.
✔️ Give yourselves permission to laugh if things don't go exactly as planned.

Because honestly, that's usually where the best stories come from. The goal isn't finding the perfect gift. It's creating a moment that says, "I thought about you. I know you. And I'd love to keep discovering new things together."

Because eventually, most things end up in a drawer, on a shelf, or forgotten altogether. The experiences we create together tend to stay with us a lot longer.
